Christine Feehan's Carpathian Vampire's

****SPOILERS***The Carpathian series is one you can read as individual books or in order of publication. However, if you don’t read them in order, expect SLIGHT spoilers here and there. For instance, I just listened to Dark Prince, the first in the series, and then Dark Possession (the 18th in the series) and heard that Mikhail’s brother Jaques has a life mate…yay…but that was the extent of it and there are very few other references but not enough to confuse you. If anything, it makes you take note of the Carpathian’s you want to know more about and in turn know which book to read next. LOL

Dark Prince

(Carpathian series, Book 1, UNABRIDGED)

by Christine Feehan/ narrated by Abby Craden

Amazon’s Book Blurb: A telepathic hunter of serial killers, Raven Whitney helps catch some of the most depraved criminals. But her work keeps her from getting close to others, and has drained her body and spirit. In need of rest and rejuvenation, she embarks on a vacation far from home.

Mikhail Dubrinksy is the Prince of the Carpathians, the powerful leader of a wise and secret ancient race that thrives in the night. Engulfed by despair, fearful of never finding the mate who can save him from the encroaching darkness, his soul cries out in loneliness. Until the day a beautiful voice full of light and love responds, softly soothing his pain and yearning.

From the moment they meet, Raven and Dubrinksy are helpless to resist the desire that sparks between them. But just as fate unexpectedly brings these life mates together, malevolent forces threaten to destroy them and their fragile love. Yet even if they survive, how can these two lovers – Carpathian and human – build a future together? And how can Dubrinksy bring Raven into his dark world without extinguishing her beautiful goodness and light?

****SPOILERS**** This was a great introduction into the Carpathian Series. A lot was explained and revealed without being over whelming about their race and the structure of the people as a whole. The way the information was woven into the plot and the characters and who they are and why they do some of the things they do made it seamless.

It starts with Mikhail wanting to go into an “eternal rest” to prevent him from going rouge for lack of a better term. This is a bit of a different start for a book. I like books that hook you from the getty up. This is a different kind of start and any book that jumps right in is a good start in my opinion. Not many books start with someone wanting to commit suicide…in a manner of speaking. Then he hears a little voice that in effect talks him off the edge.

Though set in “modern” day, the way it reads and where they are, the Carpathian Mountains (which is real by the way), it seems more old world or medieval. Lots of trees and an old inn in the woods is what I see, but still vivid.

I like the introduction of all the characters and definitely find myself picking which ones I want to know more about (Gregori) and in turn making note of which books they are in (Dark Magic). Because this was the first, the story was great. All the dynamics are woven in and you are not bogged down by the romance, violence or the excessive use of the work c**k. LOL Wonderful balance. Raven was not too much of a mush and she showed a little more back bone then some of the other women in Feehan’s stories. I liked her. Mikhail is, well Carpathian, you will very quickly learn that is an adjective all it’s own.

Dark Possession

(Carpathian series, Book 18, UNABRIDGED)

by Christine Feehan/ narrated by Phil Gigante and Jane Brown

Amazon’s Book Blurb: Manolito De La Cruz knew he was dangerously close to turning into a vampire. The last thing he expected after being called back to his Carpathian homeland by Prince Mikhail was to catch the scent of his destined life mate in MaryAnn Delaney. MaryAnn is human, but she knows all too well the overwhelmingly aggressive instincts of Carpathian males. And they're not exactly the kind of men she'd prefer to be bound to for life. A dedicated counselor for battered women, MaryAnn has a fulfilling life with no room for someone like Manolito, born and bred in the Carpathian Mountains, a law unto himself. But when MaryAnn agrees to go to South America to offer guidance to a brutalized young woman, she's oblivious of the trap that awaits her in the sweltering thick of the jungle. She has been lured there by Manolito himself, who has seductive plans for the unaware, irresistibly human female. Once there, she will be his. Once his, she will never be released. He is her lover, her predator, her life mate. She is his dark possession....

First, the fact that this was read by a man and a woman was very cool and very different, almost like watching a movie. LOL

Though interesting, I did not think this one had as much of a plot as the others. The story in the previous books seem deeper or more involved and yet this one seem to primarily focus on the relationship of Mary Anne and Manolito...in my opinion of course.

*****SPOILERS*****I loved the thought that for the first time there may have been a life mate not willing to give up who she is for her man and go Carpathian…though they all seem overly sexy (and well endowed) they are Neanderthals. Granted, when you live as long as some of them seem to, it’s hard to avoid, I’m sure. LOL Then, I was pleasantly surprised and my faith in the Carpathian series renewed…Just kidding, though I may have taken a break, I would still read ALL the books…when HE, Manolito, converted to HER form. YES!!! Well kind of. I will not say any more on that as I know that is all over the place as it is…sorry.

Over all, this one was okay. Interesting how Manolito walked in two worlds for a time, but they dwell a lot on the relationship that I could not really get into the meat of the story. If you finish all the other, then read it, but I think this one can be skipped.

Dark Peril

(Carpathian series, Book 21, UNABRIDGED)

by Christine Feehan/ narrated by Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross

Amazon Book Blurb: Dominic, of the Dragonseeker lineage—one of the most powerful of the Carpathian lines—is desperate to go to the very heart of the enemy camp and learn their plans. There’s only one way to do so: ingest the parasitic blood of a vampire. He knows that it is a mission from which there is no return. With little time before the blood takes effect, he’ll get the information he needs, relay it to the leader of the Carpathians, and go out fighting. There is no more honorable way to end his life.

Solange Sangria is one of the last of the jaguar people, a royal pureblood, a dying species that cannot recover from bad decisions made over hundreds of years. She has long been alone, fighting to save the remaining shapeshifters from the hands of Brodrick the Terrible: her own father, who slaughtered her family and everyone she loved. Wounded and weary, she plans one last battle, hoping to stop the man who has made an alliance with the vampires, accepting that she will not come out alive.

They are two warriors who have lived their lives alone. Now, at the end of their time, they find each other—an obstacle neither saw coming, and which neither can hope to ignore.

****SPOILERS****We first meet Solange in Dark Possession and I was interested in her book though I will admit it, I thought it was going to present itself in the Leopard series, not the Carpathian. I liked her and wanted to know more about her and while she was so dead set against men to the point that she did not even like to be in the same room as them. So we get her book in the Carpathian series and guess what, she becomes the demure Carpathian life mate as all the rest. She has her feisty moment, but with Dominic, she is sappy and conforming like the rest. Again, I love the series, please remember that, so I am not bashing, but you MUST do them in smaller burst then I did. I read 4 back to back and that was after reading 2 of her leopard series.

I will admit, Feehan did great with her back story and weaved it well into present day. THAT makes this book worth the read. It explains a lot of what is going on with the shifters in this series and a little of what is going on with the leopards in that series. That “we are supernatural so we are superior” mentality, her execution on that was great. Solange is passionate about her cause and that she holds onto, even when she gives into becoming Carpathian, I liked that.

Dominic was okay. Meeting him did peak my interest on what the Dragonseeker line is all about. Unfortunately, not much is given on that here. The book takes place in the jungle, so there is not much to “see”

Overall, it was a good book and I would recommend it, though I would maybe say don’t read Dark possession until after it so you do not get Solange and then see two different characters.

Dark Wolf

(Carpathian series, Book 25, UNABRIDGED)

by Christine Feehan/ narrated by Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross

Amazon Book Blurb: He is Carpathian. Ancient and unassailable. She is human. Young and vulnerable. Without her, he will not survive. Caught between two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free and humans safe. He has survived honorably when others have chosen to give up their souls. Now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri finds himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation is coming... No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she has something no one else does. She is predestined for Dimitri—as he is for her. And there is nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

***SPOILERS***When I read…reluctantly…the Twilight series and found that Jacob was bound to Bella’s daughter I was done. No, nothing is going on with these grown men and these children, but really. She never even has a chance. Same thing here. I don’t know if it was from infancy or a little later in life, but Skyler was Dimitri’s from the start and this poor man had a hand pretty much in raising his own life mate... that is just a little wrong to me. LOL

Moving on though. Feehan’s magic in this was GREAT. How Skyler wove the elements and their properties together to accomplished what she need was pretty dead set on. The detail she paid was vivid and that aided a great deal in Dimitri escape and survival. The fight scenes in this was AWESOME!!! His name slips me at the moment, but Dimitri’s brother and Lucian’s friendship and bond were GREAT! From being smuggled into a country they were unfamiliar with to the fight schemes to the detailed plotting of escape and plan A, B and sometimes even C and never slacking on detail. This book is a definite read to me. Great end to end my binge and restore and make me WANT to go read more at a later date.

Though I am taking a break, here is the order of the Carpathian series as of July 3rd, 2017. Remember, they DONT have to be read in order. If there is a ***nest to it, it means I have read it.
